Gamil Shafik was born in Tanta in 1938 and passed in 2016, leaving behind an oeuvre of ink drawings, sculptures, and press illustrations.
He acquired his bachelor’s degree in painting from the Helwan Faculty of Fine Arts in 1962. He is well-known for his monochromatic ink works in very fine lines or pointillism. Shafik belonged to the Egyptian Artists Association as well as the Cairo Atelier for Writers and Artists. His driftwood sculptures have a light, whimsical air to them and communicate movement.
