Born on August 16, 1940, in the village of Sendoub, Dakahliya, Egypt, Mohamed Ibrahim Ahmed Hagi grew up surrounded by rural landscapes that greatly influenced his artistic journey. With a passion for drawing, Hagi joined the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1958, specializing in oil painting. He was encouraged by his mentors to pursue a career in art despite his family’s expectations for him to follow more traditional career paths.
During his studies, Hagi was inspired by prominent Egyptian artists such as Ragheb Ayad and Yusuf Kamal. He later became a skilled press illustrator, creating illustrations for magazines and newspapers. Hagi’s dedication to journalistic art stemmed from his belief that it allowed him to reach a broader audience compared to traditional art forms, which were often limited to galleries and exhibitions. His unique approach blended realism and expressive techniques, enabling him to evolve through various artistic styles over the years.
Hagi’s work continues to be celebrated for its ability to capture reality and for his profound impact on Egyptian art. His creativity was recognized as exceptional, earning him the title of one of the most skilled students of the Faculty of Fine Arts.
