Rateb Seddik (1918–1994) was a trailblazing Egyptian artist whose innovative works bridged European surrealism and modern Egyptian art. Educated at Chelsea College of Art in London, he honed his craft under the guidance of renowned English surrealist Robert Medley.
Seddik further enriched his artistic perspective by studying in Paris with celebrated artist Fernand Léger, deepening his understanding of abstraction and modernist techniques.
As a member of the influential Art et Liberté group, Seddik contributed to the groundbreaking exhibition For Independent Art at the Lycée Français in Cairo on May 12, 1944. This pivotal event positioned him among the leading voices advocating for artistic freedom and cultural progress in Egypt.
Although his works have been featured in major institutional exhibitions, they remain exceptionally rare, having never been presented at auction until now. This rarity makes Seddik’s art a prized acquisition for collectors seeking unique and historically significant pieces.
