This is not the title of the classic novel by Ihsan Abdel Quddous. It is, in fact, the title of my upcoming exhibition. And, as with each of my paintings and exhibitions, the theme is women. Women have been the inspiration for artists throughout history, and the first statue discovered in historical record portrayed a woman. She appears overweight and not higher than 10 centimeters. The lady and her beauty have remained a source of inspiration for artists over the ages, from ancient Egypt to Greek and Roman eras, then the Renaissance period, and finally to the present day. But the scope of this show is not simply the beauty of women, but potentially what is more fundamental than beauty…“Freedom”

Women, far beyond men, have been and continuing to be subjected to oppression, repression, and restriction of freedom throughout history.

I present thirty paintings depicting “The Winged Woman” in this exhibition. The wings were chosen to be the adornment of the free woman, and a symbol of her freedom, flying, and flying……

About the Artist

Helmi El Touni was born in 1934 and he is one of the Arab World’s best book cover illustrators and graphic designers.

He studied art at The Faculty of Fine Arts, Cairo, and holds a BA degree in theatrical design and painting. He has been involved in a variety of visual and fine arts activities, including publishing, puppet design for the puppet theater, and the development of national furniture patterns.
He has written and illustrated several children’s books published by UN organizations in many languages. Helmi received various Arab and international awards, such as the Leipzig International Fair medal.
