“When you look at his paintings, the theatrical scene dwell in the characters and movement, form and shapes through the void that extends deeply.. It is the culmination of a dramatic event in which the characters of the event clash. It is the crowd that expresses an existential position. Reality is not critiqued, but rather reproduced through his personal existence. He has committed ontologically to define his position as opposed to the other, the crowd, and the universe… This flood that moves in a circular motion periodically as in the theater of absurdity, so the beginning clings to the end. Actions are repeated and in vain, no one can save Humanity from its afflictions. It has accepted this torment for itself, and no one can escape from this flood, which expresses the flood of the Prophet Noah. The ark may save lives, but it cannot prevent its agonies. Dance represents an essential element, as “Al-Tanbouli” is always good at dancing through his paintings, which is the main tool for expressing the feelings and dramatic struggles of his characters. The dancing steps add a temporal rhythm as well as a pictorial rhythm, as dance is a language and culture that reflects reality lived. Reality does not only represent everyday events faced but also those feelings, beliefs and myths we live and the dreams that we live for. Even if we live the same reality, everyone lives a reality of their own, and this is the reality that Al-Tanbuli procreated through his impressionable Art.”

About the Artist

Nazir Tanboli was Born in Alexandria in 1971 Tanbouli started drawing and painting at the tender age of three and has never stopped.

He studied art and design at Alexandria University between 1989 and 1994 and worked as a painter, muralist, illustrator, and graphic designer before moving to the UK in 2002,

where he has lived since. In 2010, he was awarded the MFA from Camberwell College of Arts, the University of the Arts London,

Between 2015 and 2020, he worked frequently in Alexandria. Currently, he lives and works in Cairo.
Tabouli’s work is narrative, biographical, communicative, and often humorous. His characters and settings are a dreamlike rendering of all the people he knows and all the places he has visited, but his works frequently contain many global themes and symbols, making them both non-culturally specific and widely appealing. He has been exhibiting his work since 1990, with exhibitions in Egypt, the UK, the USA, Italy, Spain, Russia, Germany, and Dubai. His works are held in many public and private collections around the world.
