Al Sageny, a native of Cairo, completed her studies at Helwan University’s Faculty of Fine Arts in 1956 and obtained her PhD in Art Education from the same institution in 1978.
Within her artistic realm, Al Sageny established a deep connection with her environment, drawing inspiration from nature, particularly the Nile and the rural landscapes, to enhance her paintings.
However, the predominant theme in her artistry centers around women in all their diverse representations. Through her artistic expression, she breathes life into women with curly hair and expressive eyes. In her own sphere, Al Sageny confronts and challenges societal biases against women, honoring them through her artistic creations.
Al Sageny’s art is notable for its portrayal of confident and assertive women with striking features, rather than being meek or reserved.
Her work often explores the strong connections between mothers and daughters. Al Sageny’s vibrant and earthy color palette is a prominent feature in her paintings, which are predominantly created using oil pastels and charcoal. Despite using simple lines, her artwork effectively conveys the emotions and feelings of her subjects.
There is an abundance of tenderness and warmth in her work, as her paintings emanate their own sense of strength. Each piece contains elements of the full spectrum of human experience, including playfulness, boldness, tranquility, and nurturing.
