Abdel Ghaffar Shedid

Painter

Abdel Ghaffar Shedid is a celebrated Arab plastic artist hailing from Egypt. Born in 1938 in Qalyubia, his name is prominently featured in Bavarian artist encyclopedias and recognized among distinguished Egyptian figures. Shedid earned his Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1962 and pursued advanced studies at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, obtaining a postgraduate diploma in 1973 and a Master’s degree in Art History and Egyptology from Ludwig Maximillian University in 1983. He later achieved a Ph.D. in General Art History, Egyptology, and Greco-Roman Art from the same university in 1985.

A respected member of global plastic arts syndicates and associations, Shedid served as a Professor of Ancient Egyptian Art History at the University of Munich in Germany in 1986. Throughout his career, he showcased his exceptional talent through solo exhibitions, including a notable show at Cairo’s Zamalek Arts Complex in 1990. Shedid’s contributions were recognized internationally when he won the International Art Exhibition in Munich for his remarkable portrayal of folklore. He also participated in renowned biennales such as the 1962 Alexandria Biennale and the 1970 Madrid Biennale. Shedid played a pivotal role in establishing the Ancient Civilizations Arts Museum in Ebhoven, Germany and authored influential German books, including “Analyzing Ancient Egyptian Art” and “Art in the Tombs of Bani Hassan in the Middle Kingdom of Egypt.”
