Born in Cairo in 1966, Adel Tharwat is a renowned Egyptian artist and a Professor of Painting and Photography at Helwan University’s Faculty of Art. A key figure in Egypt’s contemporary art scene, he has actively contributed to the country’s plastic arts movement since his graduation.
Tharwat has participated in numerous prestigious national and international exhibitions, including the Youth Salon for Egyptian Plastic Artists, the General National Exhibition, the Cairo Biennale (sixth edition), and the Alexandria International Biennale. His artistic excellence has earned him multiple awards, notably first place at the Seventh Youth Salon and the AICA Prize in 1997.
With over 15 solo exhibitions, Tharwat’s work is deeply rooted in Egyptian heritage, exploring popular cultural traditions and beliefs through a contemporary lens. His unique visual language continues to shape and inspire the regional art scene.
