Zeinab Abdel Hamid, born in 1919 in Qalyubia, northern Cairo, was a trailblazing female artist who rejected societal norms and rules of convention to pursue artistic freedom. Growing up during a period of revolution against British occupation undoubtedly influenced her perspective and approach to art.
Abdel Hamid’s cityscape paintings are renowned for their energy, vibrant colors, expressive lines, and experimental perspectives. As one of Egypt’s most prominent artists and a celebrated female artist, her work captures post-revolutionary Egypt during a period of rediscovery and modernization.
