To me, Lake Burullus was not just a body of water but rather an overwhelming sense of nostalgia for a lost time and an imagination lurking in the depths of memory. I was brought up in the warm embrace of Lake Manzala; this was, to a child, a utopian dream. Years passed, and ignorance played its role in changing the pleasurable aesthetic landscape of Lake Manzala, similar to most of the beautiful places of Egypt.
Or at least I thought so until I received an invitation from Aziz Abdel Wahab Abdel Mohsen to visit Burullus. The moment my eyes fell on the magical scenery of Lake Burullus, I remembered Lake Manzala, and ever since, I have fallen in love with Lake Burullus as it persists as a representation of my lost past in Lake Manzala. Nevertheless, Lake Burullus still preserves its beauty, glamor, and diversity of natural scenery, and perhaps one day we will realise the value of this beauty and its importance in life’s progression.
