Solo exhibition 2024

Hicham Rahma

14 January - 2 February 2024

“I thought it was a piece of writing I would finish immediately, but after I saw all the exhibition’s paintings, I found them to be paintings that lack contemplation and reflection until writing does justice to them.

The expressive paintings are the epitome of expressing the depths of their own worlds, where their symbols are presented as if they were illustrations of nights and folk tales, with their narrative richness and the interactions of the images within them and an inexhaustible imagination.

His works appeared loud despite being in black and white, intensified with those symbols and concepts that refer to the simplicity and depth of a civilization to which he belongs, one that is deeply rooted in history. Because he possesses a distinct artistic personality with a mature and refined style.

Hisham carries paintings that contain his mixed tales with rich folkloric elements, through all that overflowing momentum, the symbol blends with magical strangeness and astonishing interaction, turning it into stories and fantasies that he narrates in his own way on a white canvas, which he turns into paintings that he executes with precision, craftsmanship, and high sensitivity.

The lines and shapes in the paintings appear in playful and comfortable relationships despite all the noise between them in their communication, which adds aesthetic qualities loaded with ideas for the recipient to receive.

The symbol in Hisham’s paintings, which he presents to it, has its own effect and semantic impact. Perhaps this intensity that exists in the depth of the painting carries its lines with a dynamism carried by the artwork, where they appear between feminine and sensory bodies, appearing simple despite the weight of the concept and very expressive despite the intermingling of elements.

And because he draws with simple lines, wonderfully composed, expressively intense, harmonious, with the beauty of its shadows and light in paintings that he continues to draw with a single color … The most beautiful thing about them is that they also invited me to draw!

That’s how drawings and paintings are, drawn with passion, and because I discovered that these drawings are not as easy as I imagined… to discover that these paintings, in their simplicity, contain a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience, because he is a lover of drawing.

It is true that experience helps to refine talent… also seriousness in studying and training, and searching for a goal.

And because they are the creations of this artist and these paintings.”
