Fathi Afifi was born in 1950 in Cairo, Egypt. He graduated from industrial school and then worked in military factories for a while.
He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1974. He is a member of the Cairo Atelier Union of Artists and Writers, the Plastic Art Association, and the Ahlia Art Society.
Afifi’s paintings are distinguished by their rough textures and a variety of hues. He frequently works in black and white, scratching on a black surface. He is known for his paintings of people, factories, the working class, Egyptian alleyways, and famous districts, particularly El-Sayeda Zeinab.
He also has another collection in which he painted children’s toys, recollections of the past, circuses, and musicians. He has taken part in several national and international exhibitions in Egypt, Berlin, and Vienna. He was also the winner of the sixth International Cairo Biennale.
