Maha George is a Cairo-born contemporary artist whose work blends expressionism and symbolism, deeply rooted in Egyptian culture and heritage. Since she began painting in 1990, George has continuously experimented with diverse materials and techniques, ranging from pens, crayons, and gouache to acrylic on canvas and wood on fabric, creating quilt-like textures.
Her latest works explore everyday life, particularly the emotions and experiences of women, with a strong focus on themes of marriage and social dynamics. She has exhibited internationally, including in Nuremberg, Germany (2004), and at Cairo’s Townhouse Gallery (2002). In 1998, she received a prestigious residency at the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming, USA.
In addition to her artistic practice, George is an instructor of painting at the Art Education College in Cairo. Through her evocative compositions, she continues to push artistic boundaries, shedding light on personal and societal narratives.
