Professor and former head of the painting department at Helwan University’s Department of Fine Arts from 2006 until 2012. In 1995, she held the position of former Director of Graduate Studies and Research Affairs at Helwan University. Since 2004, she has been a member of the Promotion Committee for professors and assistant professors in the faculties of fine arts and art education. She received her bachelor’s degree in 1975 and her diploma in 1978 in Bucharest, Romania. She also received a PhD in 1982 from the University of Bucharest, Romania.
Salma has been a part of the Egyptian art movement since 1977, participating in general and group exhibits both inside and outside of Egypt. She has held solo exhibitions both in Egypt and abroad, including “Environmental Features” in 1977 and “Egyptology” in 1981 in Bucharest, Romania. She also represented Egypt in various international exhibitions, including the Drawing Triennial in Germany (1985–1986), the Youth Triennial in Madrid (1989), Rome (1991; the Abu Dhabi Biennial (1992), Japan (1992), France (1994), Lebanon (1988– 1995), Greece (1995), and her participation in the UNESCO commemoration exhibition of women’s creations in Paris. She also received honors and accolades throughout her academic and creative career
